The Listener-Terri Blackstock

I wanted to share this book with you. I don't share every single book that I read, but this book really changed the way that I think about witnessing to others.

It is a fictional account of a man who receives the ability to hear other's needs just like God, so that he can witness directly to those needs. He has amazing results in witnessing to the people that he comes into contact with and his excitement in witnessing causes his wife and friends to also begin witnessing. Everyone that they witness to does not come to realize their need for God, but many of the people do, simply because he witnessed directly to their needs. God removes this ability from him before the end of the book and he is left wondering whether he can make a difference without the gift. He comes to find that when he takes the step out to witness that God still blesses him.

Witnessing is hard for me. I have a hard time stepping out there to witness, because I am afraid (I know, I should quote 1 Timothy 1:7) of rejection. The thing that stood out to me in this book was that there was a witnessing class at the church and when he went to the class to try to get people to go witness with him, they all had excuses. Excuses like they are not ready, don't know enough about the Bible, etc. This is me. I don't feel worthy of witnessing, but this book has shown me that even if I don't know all of the verses, that I can still reach someone for Him. I only have to be willing to step out in faith for Him. He will meet me with the right words for that person.

I am asking God in front of all of you to put those people in my path that need Him. I do not go many places, but I am sure that there are people with needs at the grocery store, at the school, or at the park. I only have to be willing to listen and follow His leading.

What is God saying to you about witnessing to others? That is why we are here-to show others His love so that they may come to Him.

Tuesday Thoughts

I am finally getting well! Hallelujah! Between trying to work while sick and trying to make sure that my house and family is taken care of, I have been just hanging on by my fingernails. After the strep throat, I dealt with allergies that just seem to get worse the older I get. Anyways, I am back!

Two weeks and four days until vacation. I am soooo ready! Four more days of school for the big kids. One more day of babysitting for me. It is all just a countdown right now. I wonder what God thinks of my countdowns? I don't countdown the days until church. I don't countdown the minutes and hours until I get to spend time with Him. Hmmm. I am sure that there is something to be learned here. I will think on that some more.

Change is coming at our church. We are getting ready for a big move to a new building and a new neighborhood this summer. I am working on the Nursery up through two year old part of it. That is four rooms for me. This has been a lot more work than I previously thought, because we are trying to determine what to take, leave, purchase, etc. In addition, I want to begin some new programs and that is taking up time, too. For all of you moms, what do you want from your child's nursery? What are some things that you feel is missing from nursery ministry? I have always believed that even babies can learn about Jesus, but finding the right curriculum or materials is not very easy for this age group. I am planning a baby shower for the nursery to help get supplies, toys, and more for these rooms. We are moving from three rooms to four in the new building and our toys are as old as me, so I want to begin anew.

Sorry for all of the rambling thoughts this morning. My brain is just spinning today. Well, I am going to go back to work. I am writing articles on colon issues this morning. Not much fun, but it pays for vacation!

Wordless Wednesday-Almost!

Today is supposed to be Wordless Wednesday and it will be in real life. I still don't have much of a voice and my throat hurts, so the only way that I can really communicate is by squeaking the words out or blogging. Sorry, my friends, that you are getting the bad end of the deal!LOL

Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and always has been. I remember when I was younger, my mom would motivate me to do my chores by promising to buy me a "Bobbsey Twin" book. I would read under the covers at night, behind my Bible at church (until my mom caught me), in the bathroom, while eating breakfast, and anywhere else that I could. I am still so much like that, but life has snuck up on me a little more than when I was younger. What excites me? The library, a used bookstore, a yard sale with books, and a friend with a book that she wants me to read. I am so focused on reading books that I check them out in author's alphabetical order from the library. I don't want to miss an author! That is why I am so excited about this new book blog tour that I have joined. What could be better than someone sending me books and allowing me to share them with you! This fun adventure is going to start in June!

Since I am not officially on the blog tour right now and I haven't read any of their books, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite authors. If you see one that I don't seem to have listed, then let me know. You may be giving me a new author to try!

Here are my faves!

Karen Ball

Sylvia Bambola

Gilbert Morris

Lori Wick

Sharon Hinck

Terri Blackstock

Lauraine Snelling

Traci Peterson

Janet Oke

Karen Kingsbury

Michael Phillips

Angela Hunt

and so many more! I am a book junkie! I love the fact that new authors are constantly coming out with Christian based fiction titles! Who are some of your favorites (Christian or not)? I am thinking that I need to round out my list with a few non-fiction titles. Are there any you can recommend to me?

I hope you are having a beautiful day! Smiles and Loves! Janis

Mommy Monday-Taking Care of Yourself

If you are like most women, then you do not take very good care of yourself. You wait until you are about dead before going to the doctor, you do not exercise as you should, and you do not take time for yourself as you should. You spend a great deal of your time taking care of your husband, children, parents, and friends, rather than yourself. If you don't take care of yourself, who will? This is something that I am having to learn right now. Why? Because my health is not the greatest. I am overweight and out of shape-not to mention that I am constantly getting illnesses lately-from my bladder infection a few weeks ago to strep throat today. This is clearly a wake-up call for me. I don't want to be sick and not feeling well all of the time. I am not meant to live a life feeling tired and uninspired. That is why I am going to make some changes-starting with a doctor visit to get a check-up. I have to take care of myself, because if I don't, then who will?

What do you do to take care of yourself? Do you take care of yourself? If not, then it is definitely something that you need to think about.

In Other Words-Tuesday

"When God is involved, anything can happen. Be open and stay that way. God has a beautiful way of bringing good vibrations out of broken chords."

~ Chuck Swindoll~

What a wonderful quote for today. I sooo believe in this quote. Broken chords may not sound like much to most of us, but to God, it is beautiful music. I am a broken chord, but I believe that if I love God and follow Him, then I will be a piece of beautiful music to Him. Nothing else matters if you consider that. Let God turn your broken chords into good vibrations. Only He is able!

Mommy Monday

Milestones are so hard for us moms sometimes, aren't they? Lately, I am finding that the milestones that my children are reaching are really bothering me. My son is graduating from elementary school this year and moving to middle school. No, he is not grown yet, but it is just another step for him. My oldest daughter is not technically reaching a milestone, but just looking at her and listening to her makes my heart hurt. Where has the little girl gone? She is turning into a young lady right before my eyes and she is only in first grade!! What happened to the days where first graders played with Barbies and dolls? She is more interested in bras and makeup than playing. That makes me so sad! My three-year old is talking in sentences and is expressing her personality. She is not a baby anymore and she is sure to let you know that she doesn't need your help! All of these milestones have pushed me to a point where I am feeling a little lost and unneeded. Silly, I know, but sometimes I feel like they are all leaving me behind. I am in a weird spot in my life right now. It is a little uncomfortable, but it is a little exciting, too. I wonder what God has in store for me? I can't wait to see!

"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

Thankful Thursday

Sorry I have not posted in a week or so. I have been SOOOO busy with work that I haven't had time to write for fun! I am thankful for many things, though, so I am going to participate in Thankful Thursday.

1. I am thankful for being able to work at home. Yes, sometimes it seems like I get too many projects all at one time, but I am thankful for the opportunity to do what I do. God has been so good to bless me with a way to make money for vacations and the little extras.

2. I am thankful for my husband. He is a supportive husband and father who loves God and us. What could be better than that?

3. I am thankful for my kids. They make me proud each and every day with how smart, loving, and kind they are. I can't wait to see what God is going to do with them!

4. I am thankful for new mercies. Each and every day I get a new beginning.

5. I am thankful for food and a house. Some people even in our country do not have these simple blessings.

Have a beautiful day!
